Split sat motionless in front of the pup's den. It was his turn to watch the entrance. Protect them from birds. He looked around the pack. It was pretty calm down here. Not much going on. Yes, a part of Split was bored... but the other part knew he had to watch the pups. They are the future of the Pack, He had heard once With out them, there is no future. He licked his lips as he saw a pack member bring in a large hawk. It looked so good. But Split kept his position.

Haze dragged the bird, teeth held firmly in the flesh. This hawk had been stupid enough to attack the Alpha, and woe befell it when it did. The black wolf had made a quick work of it. Now it was prey in the teeth of the predator.
Haze saw Split sitting motionless at the entrance. Haze let out a satisfied grunt to see a responsible wolf. As he approached, the leader set the bird down.
"Anything out of the ordinary?" he asked.

"Nothing really." Split said. "But anything could change fast. So thats why I am here." He said. He looked up at the sky to make sure there wern't any big birds above. His black and white fur was warm in the sunlight. "Oh, there was one thing that changed. One of the pups found out how to howl." He laughed a little. He looked down at the bird his leader had. "Nice catch sir."

Haze smiled at the news of the pup. They were in for a noisy night; pups always found a way to show off their howl. It reminded him of his puppyhood.
"Nice catch sir"
"It's nothing,"Haze said gruffly. "This bird was practically begging to be caught."

Split smiled. "Let hope it staysn that way threw winter." He said. They had a long way to winter but it always worried wolves about winter. Split heard a little howl from behind him. He laughed.

Haze let amusment flick his tail. "Come, let's eat. I'm sure nothing will happen for a while," the Alpha said, motioning his head for Split to follow. The black wolf picked up the hawk and carried towards the center of the camp.

Split hasitated at first. Then he nodded. "Okay." He looked back at the pup's den. As long as they stay inside they will be fine... Right? So Split followed his leader. "Thank you sir." He said.

Haze allowed himself to smile. "We can watch them while we eat," he reassured, noticing the wolf's hesitation.

A gold wolf tinged with white padded out into the clearing, her alike golden eyes blinking in the sunlight. She shook her long fur, before spotting Split and Haze. Walking over, she nodded to each in a greeting. "Last time I checked, birds don't go through the front entrance to eat pups" Nyra mused flicking her black tail-tip.

"They would if they where really hungry." Split said. "I would eat you if I was really hungry." He joked to the female. He winked with his blind eye. He looked over at the pups' den. The opening was small but if a pup got out, a bird could easily swoop down and take the pup away with no trouble.

Nyra rolled her eyes and didn't seem amused by Split's jestor. "If I was a hawk and I was hungry I wouldn't waste my time testing my luck on roaming on into a small den- even if it was filled with pups. Why else would some mean-looking wolves be sitting out here looking at the sky every so often?" She shook her head and flicked her tail again. "I'm sure their mothers would be fine. Don't you think so, Oh wise Alpha?" She said looking at Haze for the first time.

Split wanted to tell Nyra not to talk to her alpha like that but he kept his mouth shut, knowing his leader could take care of himself.

The gold wolf snorted and raised her head in a defient-like position. "Your both wasting your time. Do we even have, any pups in there?" Nyra taunted, flicking her claws.

"Two to be exact." Split said, not sounding any bit offended. His turned his head back to the pup den, having to turn all the way because of his blind eye.
